IREM Members Gather in DC – Making a Difference for Themselves and the Industry
The upcoming presidential election. Consolidation in the real estate industry. The war for talent. The importance of property management to real estate investment strategy. These were some of the key themes discussed by IREM members as they gathered in Washington, DC, last week for the Institute’s annual Leadership and Legislative Summit.Nearly 400 IREM members converged on the nation’s Capitol with the goal of engaging with each other to share best practices that will better position them to identify and respond to changes in the business environment and advocate on issues affecting the properties they manage and the clients they serve.

Real Estate Icons Share Unique Insights on the Current State of the Industry
The management of investment real estate ultimately comes down to people. This was a recurring theme during IREM’s Live with Industry Leaders session that brought together the head of one of the world’s largest real estate service companies with two asset managers representing major institutional investors. The session kicked off IREM’s 2016 Leadership and Legislative Summit in Washington, DC.Speaking on behalf of third-party property management was John Santora, CPM, global chief operating officer and chief integration officer for Cushman & Wakefield, AMO. His fellow panelists were Donald Svoboda, director of real estate investments at MetLife, and Scott MacDonald, managing director at J.P. Morgan Asset Management – Global Real Assets.

IREM Awards Dinner: Celebrating Chapters
What an exciting night in DC for IREM Chapters! At its IREM Awards, 35 chapters were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Institute and the real estate management industry. They were recognized for innovative programs, membership growth, IREM Foundation support and contributions and promotion and support of the Income/Expense Analysis Program. In addition, IREM recognized Legislator of the Year, Representative Peter Welch from Vermont, for significant support and understanding of the issues important to our industry. IREM Announces Legislator of the Year Award Winner: Congressman Peter Welch of Vermont
IREM presented its 19th annual IREM Legislator of the Year Award to Congressman Peter Welch of Vermont. Several members of the IREM Boston Metropolitan Chapter 4 were joined in the Congressman’s office by IREM 2016 Secretary/Treasurer Ben McGrew, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Don Wilkerson, and IREM Government Affairs staff in presenting the award to Representative Welch.
